Archery term
Draw Length
Definition
Draw length is the distance the bowstring travels from its resting position to the archer's full-draw anchor point, measured for a given archer. Under the common AMO/ATA standard it is defined as the distance at full draw from the nock point to the pivot point of the bow's grip plus 1.75 inches.
Why it matters
Draw length must fit the individual archer for consistent anchoring, a repeatable shot, and correct arrow selection. On a compound bow it is a fixed mechanical setting that should match the archer exactly, and it is also one of the inputs that determines correct arrow length and spine.
