Archery term

Follow-Through

Definition

Follow-through is the act of maintaining form and direction through and immediately after release, rather than relaxing or moving the moment the string is let go. The bow arm stays up and the release motion continues naturally until the arrow is well on its way.

Why it matters

Because the arrow is still in contact with the bow for a brief moment after release, collapsing or steering early disturbs arrow flight and opens up groups. A consistent follow-through lets every shot finish the same way, which protects accuracy and is one of the most common form points coaches reinforce.
