Archery term

Insert

Definition

An insert is a small threaded sleeve, usually aluminum, that is glued into the front of an arrow shaft to accept screw-in points. It provides the standardized threads that let an archer attach and swap field points or other compatible tips.

Why it matters

Inserts make point weight interchangeable, letting archers tune front-of-center balance and spine match by changing points without replacing the shaft. Because the insert adds its own weight at the front of the arrow, it factors into both balance and total arrow weight when building a tuned arrow.
